Banned Book Week Sneak Peek Party

When: Fri., Sept. 19, 7-9 p.m. 2014
Books have been challenged and banned for reasons ranging from the scandalous to the absurd. While it may feel like a thing of the past, it's not—teen books such as The Hunger Games series and The Perks of Being a Wallflower were two of the most commonly challenged last year. Chapel Hill Public Library is one of many institutions nationwide participating in the American Library Association's "Banned Books Week," which celebrates the fight against library censorship. The Library invited local artists of all ages to submit artwork based on a censored or banned book. From Sept. 21–27, they'll be on display, and you can drop by each day to snag all seven that were selected to be printed as trading cards. Friday night is the Sneak Peek Party. —Allison Hussey
