Bane, Defeater, Miles Away, Dead End Path, Groupthink

When: Mon., Nov. 14, 7 p.m. 2011
Price: $12-$15

The villain known only as Bane made his D.C. comics debut in the pivotal 1993 Batman story arc Knightfall. The Man Who Broke the Bat, as he'd come to be known, is a formidable foe—a genius-level intellect with a chemically assisted build, equal parts strongman and grizzly bear. He's a fitting namesake for the Boston-based hardcore band started by one-time Converge guitarist Aaron Dalbec in 1995. The quintet remains the quintessence of floor-punching hardcore. But Bane is more than a meatheaded moshmonger. The band's taut pacing and singer Aaron Bedard's dry bark are well-honed tools wielded with precision. With Defeater, Miles Away, Dead End Path and Groupthink. —Bryan C. Reed
