Banda Magda

When: Tue., Oct. 27, 8 p.m. 2015
Price: $10-$13
Magda Giannikou, the voice of global jazz group Banda Magda, was born in Greece and plunged into New York. She emerged a pop polyglot. Singing in five languages, the accordionion-playing chanteuse graduated from Berklee as a film scorer. What’s more, she cites Ravel, Debussy and Stravinsky as her biggest influences. The facility Giannikou wields over the staff is noticeable mostly through virtuosic arrangements that range from samba and smoky jazz to Edith Piaf on a trippy day. —Amanda Black
