Backyard Tire Fire

When: Tue., April 13, 9 p.m. 2010
Price: $8-$10

This Bloomington, Ind., trio have their own corner at Americana's overcrowded BBQ. They're close to the cooler, because the easygoing vibe's more Bud than bud, and within shouting distance of the porch. That means they're able to kick up their feet for a little folk picking. While dusty twang frequently underscores their sound, the attitude's more earworming hook than rowdy stomp. Their latest, Good To Be, puts some distance between themselves and those in cowboy boots, sounding like a particularly tuneful bar band as much as roots rockers. Singer Ed Anderon's baritone is a friendly pat on the shoulder, while the lyrics offer a knowing nudge to the ribs. Pay $8–$10 at 9 p.m. —Chris Parker
