Re: “More on that unwieldy Durham restaurant name "Hattie Mae Williams Called Me Captain"

Mostly, what Drrrrrrham said, with the additional note that this is particularly offensive because the restaurant is using Ms. Williams as a mascot for the further dispossession of Black Durham, using her name (and honestly the power relationships would have been clear without the photograph) to justify white people building on the value created and maintained over decades by African American individuals and communities, and then displacing them from businesses and homes (under the guises both of "development" and "gentrification"). It speaks to how naturalized these racist practices are that the name is primarily being goofed at for its length rather than for its racism.
