Audio Under the Stars: True Romance

When: Fri., Aug. 28, 8 p.m. 2015

CENTER FOR DOCUMENTARY STUDIES—As summer nears its end, so does Audio Under the Stars, which takes up the wistful theme True Romance: Love Stories of All Stripes in its penultimate outing of the season. In the recorded listening-party series from Duke's Center for Documentary Studies, audio producers give the public-radio documentary treatment to thematic stories submitted by locals, often first-person slice-of-life accounts of adventures, oddities and personal growth in the Triangle and beyond. The setting is as big a draw as the stories: Lounging on a blanket or chair outdoors at CDS, the whole night sky becomes a celestial radio speaker. Audio Under the Stars partnered with oral historians from the Museum of Durham History to collect these stories, which cover first dates and breakups, online dating, a 30-year anniversary and a couple on their wedding day. 8 p.m., free, 1317 W. Pettigrew St., Durham, 919-660-3663, Howe
