People will pay to be deceived; professional magic, politics, and the "male enhancement" industry are all based, to varying degrees, on that principle. This month, the Center for Documentary Studies' summertime lawn series for listening to audio documentaries focuses on a dozen lies, including chat line fabrications and crimes gone wrong. In their midst: the classic Native American autobiography that was exposed as a Klansman's fiction and an account of how two Southerners escaped slavery by hiding in plain sight. You don't have to pay for these lies; admission is free. Don't forget the lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic basket.—Byron Woods
