Atrophix, Triangle Fire, Gorbash

When: Sat., June 30, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $5

The Athens, Ga., foursome Triangle Fire takes its name from a famous 1911 industrial disaster, if there were any doubt of the band's politi-punk leanings. But where plenty of indignant punks let their tunes fall into D-beat orthodoxy, Triangle Fire bridge abrasive thrash with open melody. They claim punk, ska and rockabilly as ingredients, and their lighthearted defiance of punk codes is endearing. Of course, structure isn't always a bad thing. The Doomsday crust punk of Raleigh's Atrophix walks the widening bridge between punk and metal competently and confidently, earning this night's headlining slot. Gorbash opens. Pay $5 at 9 p.m. —Bryan C. Reed
