It's been five years since Wilmington hard rock outfit ASG issued Win Us Over, its well-received third album for Volcom Entertainment. Later this month, the heavyweight metal imprint Relapse Records will offer ASG's fourth, Blood Drive. ASG hasn't idled in the interim, it seems. A more focused set of songs, Blood Drive again highlights the band's deft blend of punk, pop and sludge metal (which earned early comparisons to Kyuss, Torche and Queens of the Stone Age). This time around, the riffs are heavier, the hooks more memorable and the rhythm section more forceful. —Bryan C. Reed
