The Arts of Revolution in the Middle East conference explores the relationships between politics and aesthetics and the democratic potential of popular forms of expression. The Arab Spring uprisings gave rise to new forms of expression and led to an effervescence of street theatre, graffiti, rap, poetry, poster art, and film. This conference explores the varied expressions of spontaneous, eruptive freedom and ponders what the future might bring. (Saturday's session is at John Hope Franklin Center, 2204 Erwin Rd, Durham.)
