ART2WEAR

TALLEY STUDENT UNION, RALEIGH

FRIDAY, APRIL 17

The futuristic sculpture in front of N.C. State's Tally Student Union could be an inspiration for art and design, but what about for clothing? And what if that clothing were even constructed from similar materials? Pleated sheets of aluminum and layers of steel mesh may not usually be cladding for runway models, but they are at Art2Wear, the annual fashion and wearable sculpture show run by students from N.C. State's Colleges of Design and Textiles. Soldered iron, stained glass and metal bustiers (yes, you can sew metal) were some of the whimsical creations constructed by designers last year. In a sneak peek at this year's looks, we glimpsed bright colors, complex draping and power-clashing patterns. What started as an idea among a small group of students for a fashion show in the Pit has grown into an eye-boggling presentation that attracts thousands of fashion lovers to campus. 8 p.m., $25–$50, 2610 Cates Ave., Raleigh, 919-741-7263,
