Archie Fisher, Garnet Rogers

When: Thu., March 27, 8 p.m. 2014
Price: $14-$22

Many years ago, when old American and British folk music became the nascent fascination of a new, strange generation of songwriters, Archie Fisher didn't get the renaissance he deserved. His contemporaries did: Devendra Banhart played on records by the aged Bert Jansch and Vashti Bunyan, and the Imaginational Anthem guitar series resurrected players like Max Ochs. Fisher was not among those justly championed. Still, the Scotsman had already enjoyed a different kind of resuscitation, hosting the popular BBC Radio show Travelling Folk. Fisher's gentle songs—best captured by two quietly wonderful albums between 1968 and 1970—are romantic, detail-rich ruminations on journeys and homesteads, retreat and redemption. He's made many albums since, including several with Canadian picker and singer Garnet Rogers, who accompanies him on this rare and overdue American tour. —Grayson Haver Currin
