Annual Best Countdown Ever

When: Fri., Dec. 31, 10 p.m. 2010
Price: $18-20

Every New Year's Eve, I hope to find myself kissing off the old year by sipping a flute of anything bubbly and then laughing so hard it threatens to come out my nose. Yet whether I'm actually rolling on the floor laughing or parked on a couch gazing at a sluggishly descending silver globe tends to rely on an array of fickle factors: which friends, what party, whose internal clocks are begging for shut-eye. But this year, I've found an event that promises to provide the rollicking without any of the guesswork: the Annual Best Countdown Ever at DSI Comedy Theater. For those seeking family-friendly giggles that won't keep the kiddies out past midnight, check out the 5:30 p.m. Improv Slam. Starting at 10 p.m., partygoers 16 and up can enjoy saucier improv from DSI's All-Stars following my all-time favorite film-overdubbing improv act, PT Scarborough is a Movie. Icing on the cake: Admission to the late show includes party favors and a Champagne or sparkling juice toast. Laughing it in with bubbly this year? Check. Tickets to the 5:30 show are $10, or $8 for students and children; for the 10 p.m. show, they're $18 in advance and $20 day of show. —Lindsay Parker
