SPOILER ALERT: It's about totalitarianism. DOUBLE-SPOILER ALERT: Despite being about animals, it's not for little kids. In fact, this musical adaptation of George Orwell's classic is recommended by Raleigh Little Theatre for ages 12 and up. It's the simple, classic story about some animals who are horribly exploited by their farmer, so they stage a revolution, take over the farm and turn it into an animal paradise—and then the pigs get greedy and things get ugly. There might be some allegory there. Enjoy this musical version by Peter Hall, noted anti-Royalist British poet Adrian Mitchell and musician Richard Peaslee (who's also done music for the also-not-for-kids Marat/Sade), but reports have it that Elton John and Lee Hall (Billy Elliot) are working on their own version for Broadway. As you probably have Elton's work for The Lion King still ringing in your ears, that's going to be one weird match. See website for performance dates and times. —Zack Smith
