Anicon, Forest of Tygers, Only Ash Remains, Edge of Humanity

When: Tue., Sept. 22, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $5
New York’s Anicon disrupt their arching and economical take on black metal with thrash and death metal outbursts, curbing their occasional tendency to sound like some “transcendental” Brooklyn peers. Still, you’ve likely heard a lot like this before. The same doesn’t hold for Nashville guitar-and-drums duo Forest of Tygers, who add a little post-metal grandeur and hardcore atavism to a vivid and malevolent mix of all of the above. Only a few songs and limited releases into the onset of their career, they sound like the start of a wonderful terror. —Grayson Haver Currin
