Angi Shearstone

When: Sat., July 2, 5-7 p.m. 2011

Local illustrator Angi Shearstone's eclectic résumé includes a stint doing computer colors for children's book creator Mercer Mayer, but her latest project is far from kid-friendly. BloodDreams is a fully painted graphic novel set in an alternate 1977, where vampirism is just another way of life, and a young punk named Jonny finds that he might be the one to save their race from extinction. The 56-page, $5.95 first installment was funded by a Kickstarter campaign that raised more than $5,000; the result was called "beautifully monstrous" by Transmetropolitan and Planetary writer Warren Ellis. Shearstone premieres BloodDreams No. 1 with this launch party. —Zack Smith
