A modern, well-engineered, roundabout at Lakewood or Bivins, or at both, would help sort things out. There is essentially one travel lane in each direction there which makes for a relatively simple type roundabout.

A steady flow of traffic is maintained, conflict points are reduced, things slow down just a little at the intersection but the overall journey time stays about the same since there are no signals eating into your average, you eliminate the traffic lights overhead - and their maintenance and electric bills - and spruce up the area, and you spruce up the look of the intersection.

In the 1960s Great Britain started replacing intersections with roundabouts, they finished the job in the 1980s. Since then they have achieved among the safest roads and lowest fatality rates in the world.…
