Re: “The Saga of Forest Hills Apartments Ended Last Week. Wake County‚Äôs Affordable Housing Struggle Continues.

Section 8 in Raleigh is a challenge for local landlords. The challenge is NOT the tenants and in most cases it is not the payout. It is the system. No landlord, public or private, wants to keep their property vacant for 3 to 6 weeks while their paperwork is reviewed , inspections scheduled, paperwork reviewed and more paperwork reviewed. Landlords do not have to accept Section 8 vouchers. And if the Section 8 process creates unreasonable time delays and bureaucratic nightmares why would any landlord accept Section 8? Streamline the Section 8 process and landlords would line up to be a part of the solution to low-income housing.
