Andrea N Richesin, Suzanne Finnamore & Katie Herzog

When: Wed., June 22, 7 p.m. 2011

Your first crush: That moment when you realize the intense possibility of personal fulfillment through the miracle of someone maybe-possibly-liking you. Inevitably, it never works out, and you waste months obsessing over some potential idealized relationship because you're afraid to kill the fantasy, and maybe they like the attention, even though they're doodling the name of that meathead from the wrestling team in their notebook during Algebra II and ... sorry, this might be a little too specific. Most people have known the pain of a crush, and quite a few have become writers. Now, some of them have written up their stories in Crush: 26 Real-Life Tales of First Love, an anthology from Harlequin that includes local writers Suzanne Finnamore and Katie Herzog, who'll appear with anthology editor Andrea N. Richesin starting at 7 p.m. The trio will also be at Flyleaf Books in Chapel Hill on Thursday for a free "Bring Your Own Lunch" event at noon. (Prepared lunches may be ordered in advance from Foster's Market at 919-967-4383.)

Hopefully, both events will end better than, hypothetically, a situation where an impressionable film student at N.C. State spent the better part of a semester pining after a blonde in his "Topics in Subversive Film" course, only to find out she was trying to get him to write her term paper for her. Bitch. —Zack Smith
