Andrea Gibson

When: Sat., Nov. 16, 7 p.m. 2013
Price: $10-12
Several years ago, I came across a video of spoken word artist and poet Andrea Gibson performing her poem "Dive." As I sifted through the plethora of videos of her performances, she shifted my understanding of the resonance creative people are capable of. A star of the international slam poetry world, Gibson is as much an activist as an artist; her writing ranges from personal emotional stories such as "Maybe I Need You" to powerful political punches such as "For Eli." The Colorado poet's work covers topics including gender issues, race, class, religion, politics, love and illness. Her delivery is as masterful as her writing; as a performer, she presents a full spectrum of human emotion, expressing both the malevolence and the profound kindnesses of modern society. —Mary Alta Feddeman
