With her latest album, Vengo, Ana Tijoux proclaims herself part of the plan to decolonize the mind and ears of Latin America. In the background of her songs, the zampoña, a brass band and nods to the Andes lead the listener toward pan-Latin American hip-hop, as Tijoux spits accusations and exhortations in equal parts. The French-Chilean artist’s take on hip-hop is a relatively new one, especially considering that her first popular album, 1977, was heavily autobiographical and influenced by U.S. styles of flow. —Amanda Black
