Alexandra Sokoloff

When: Wed., July 21, 7:30 p.m. 2010

Raleigh author Alexandra Sokoloff has become a closet industry of supernatural mystery thrillers, producing a book a year since 2006's The Harrowing and receiving nominations for such top horror prizes as the Bram Stoker Award. In her latest novel, Book of Shadows, the daughter of a Boston businessman (thrillers love to take place in Boston) is discovered dead in a landfill, and the investigation leads to a witch who asserts that supernatural forces are behind this and that more killings are to come. The investigating detective is understandably skeptical, but then, well, bad things happen. Lots of bad things. Sokoloff will read from and sign copies of Book of Shadows (not to be confused with the misguided Blair Witch Project sequel). —Zack Smith
