Sorry for your troubles, Hal. You might find that a dose of historical perspective could take you out of yourself.

Remember the sordid sexism of Mickey Spillane novels? "Birth of a Nation" being screened at the White House? Ever heard of the antebellum literature about poor Maria Monk, the nun who claimed to have been made a sex slave to priests? The anti-Catholic rioting that followed? The breathless, make-believe stories of “white slavery” in Africa? The faked Indian massacre tales, steeped in unctuous piety?

There have always been cynics pandering to the worst human tendencies. But the results of their labors tend to die out even before they do. If you could remember this, you might be better able to resist the urge to fantasize about the violent eradication of people whose behavior offends you.
