AIDS Wolf, Unicorn Hard-on, Secret Boyfriend, Tooth Ache

When: Mon., Nov. 7, 9:30 p.m. 2011
Price: $7

Ma Vie Banale Avant-Garde, the new LP by Canadian pummel-rock trio AIDS Wolf, is a step up for the band, if only in terms of stamina. Their previous album, 2010's March to the Sea, was just 24 minutes long, but Ma Vie lasts a whopping hour-plus. By whopping, I mean musically so: The band's hammering beats, grinding guitar and strangled yelps make the word "relentless" seem inadequate. Enduring all 24 tracks at once is like weightlifting without a spotter, but AIDS Wolf's mono-pound sound has found new, even more muscular shapes. They are the better for it. —Marc Masters
