ADF: Dendy Dancetheater

When: June 21-23, 8 p.m. 2010

Mark Dendy knows how to reinvent himself. He served as the artistic director of the Mark Dendy Dance and Theater company until 2000, when he decided to pursue musical theater. After an eight-year hiatus, he's returned with his new company. Dendy is a familiar name at American Dance Festival: He debuted two works last year, Golden Belt and Would you please restate your answer in the form of the question? This year, the company will debut an ADF-commissioned world premiere, Divine Normal. The piece follows a young Southern dancer who moves to New York City to chase his dreams, meeting giants of the dance world along the way, including Martha Graham and Vaslav Nijinsky. Dendy gleans inspiration from dance history and theater, and this time is no exception. —Sarah Ewald
