Re: “What's the holdup on the 27-story high-rise in downtown Durham?

" 'We’re actually expecting to close on our loan this Friday,' Greg Hills, founder and managing partner of Austin Lawrence Partners."

So, did they "close" on their loan last Friday? I would like to see some follow-up on this piece.

Thank you.

Re: “Turning the Durham Downtown Loop two-way: What do you think?

I’m all for de-looping downtown. But the main reason I want this to move forward has less to do with downtown, and more to do with the downtown adjacent neighborhoods Roxboro and Mangum pass through. As a resident of the nearby Old North Durham neighborhood, that hope you refer to of "cross[ing] the street without the potential for being crushed by a speeding car" is a sentiment myself and many others share. I can only assume that if/when Roxboro is converted into a 2-way street, that the conversion will extend all the way to its current point of merger with Magnum in Duke Park. While I'm not certain that the conversion itself would calm traffic through the residential areas, I would appreciate it if traffic planners would take the opportunity to narrow the roadway somewhat with bike lanes and, perhaps at some of its widest and fastest portions (ie the crossing of Trinity until the Mangum merger), even put in curb extensions. As it is Roxboro cuts off Cleveland-Hollaway from Central Park, Old North Durham from the rest of OND and the "DIY" district, and even splits apart some of Duke Park.
