Acorn Bcorn

When: Wed., Oct. 3, 9 p.m. 2012

Tucson sisters Marina and Leann Cornelius take an interesting approach to being a multi-tasking rock duo. The two cooperate on percussion, standing behind a nontraditional spread of drums, cymbals and tambourines. Their minimalist rock alternates between related forms of howler garage-blues and desert-psych, like some Jack White-scored spaghetti western. Yet Acorn Bcorn also pushes ornate '50s pop structures in unexpectedly sparse directions. During the delicately imbalanced doo-wop of "Never Again," the space is almost an instrument of itself. When Acorn Bcorn elects to go quiet—riding a tambourine and little other percussion for an entire song, say—the silence is as enticing as a wall of tube amps. The show starts at 9 p.m. —Corbie Hill
