Already an independent record label, online retailer and social networking entity, Cary's Abstract Logix now launches The New Universe Music Festival. Featuring a roster of artists including John McLaughlin's 4th Dimension Band, Jimmy Herring, Wayne Krantz, Ranjit Barot, Alex Machacek, Human Element and the Lenny White Group, the fest will celebrate jazz, world music and the prog rock that the company has specialized in since its inception in 2003. "The idea of the festival has been in my head for years," says Abstract Logix founder Souvik Dutta. "We decided to step it up and also pay a tribute to John McLaughlin, who has been one of my musical heroes since I was 10 years old." A two-day pass to the Saturday–Sunday event is $90; single-day tickets range from $37–$65. Show time is 6 p.m. each night. —Ashley Melzer
