El Centro Latino Community Celebration

El Centro Latino celebrates its second year of success with a community potluck and Latin party this Friday in Carrboro. "It has been two exciting years for all of us at El Centro Latino and in the community," says Mauricio Castro, board president. "We have accomplished a lot and we continue to grow and respond to the needs of the Latino community." A nonprofit organization, the center seeks to improve the quality of life for Latinos in and around the Triangle, through educational and social services, and cultural activities. In keeping with this mission, the weekend celebration will feature a range of dishes, music by DJ Mike, dancing and a performance by Latin jazz band, Carnavalito. All are encouraged to attend and to bring a dish to share. The community celebration will take place Friday, Aug. 9, 7 p.m. at El Centro Latino, 101 Lloyd St., Carrboro. Carnavalito will perform at 9 p.m. at the Cat's Cradle, 300 E. Main St., Carrboro. Tickets for the concert are $8, $4 El Centro members and free for children 12 and under.
