A Skaggs Family Christmas

When: Sat., Dec. 21, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $37-77

Since the early 2000s, iconic bluegrass vocalist and mandolin man Ricky Skaggs has made a tradition of assembling his kin for a Christmas run of revues. The trek wraps this year with a Durham date. Joining with traditionally minded trio The Whites, Skaggs gets the in-laws involved—he married their lead singer, Sharon, more than 30 years ago. They offer harmony-rich approaches to country, bluegrass and gospel. They'll share the stage with the next generation: Skaggs' daughter Molly and son Luke are both multi-instrumentalists and singers, while his niece, Rachel Leftwich, adds vocals. Expect a polished presentation of well-known hymns and carols by a personable group of performers. —Spencer Griffith
