Writer-director J.C. Chandor's gritty period piece about an honest immigrant getting his hands dirty in the 1981 New York City oil-delivery business stars an Oscar-worthy Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain. The film has shades of Sydney Lumet, The Godfather and Glengarry Glen Ross, but it's really about the transfer of tribal power as Italian gangsters, Irish union bosses and Jewish land barons fade into the background.
