It's a literary fact: in Charles Dickens's novella, A Christmas Carol, Ebenezer Scrooge is haunted by at least six spirits, not three. And if you've only seen the popular dramatizations of the holiday classic, you've probably forgotten—or you never knew—that it includes scenes in a remote lighthouse and on a ship at sea. In case you're wondering what else you've been missing from the original version, Ray Dooley can remind you. PlayMakers Repertory Company revives his compelling one-person version of the timeless tale this week, a full generation after it was last produced in 1998. Dooley acts out all of the characters in a way that underlines Dickens's literary genius while accentuating the chilly, spectral elements of one of the most famous ghost stories of all time. —Byron Woods
