Re: “Raleigh forbids giving food to homeless, encounters P.R. nightmare

Dear Vince: A majority of the people in Moore Square ARE homeless! And how do I know? Well, once upon a time I was like you, living in a nice house with a nice car and a nice bank account. And I too was equally as clueless as to the suffering going on around me. Then through a long series of unfortunate events that I don't and won't go into, I found myself homeless. It was not a choice! With no car, no money, no phone, no access to a computer (yes, even a job at McDonald's requires an online application - and don't even say there is a library downtown because they have roughly 10 computers and a 15 minute limit and a constant line of people waiting), I was not able to get a job. Heck, I couldn't even bathe! But I digress. The point is, yes there is real homelessness and real suffering amongst people in the Moore Square area. And for the record, those Church people are not out serving "hot meals". You receive a brown sack with two peanut butter sandwiches, some crackers or chips and a piece of fruit. And how do I know that? Well, I'll tell you: because often that would be the only food I would get the whole weekend!
