Let's not forget that the damages from coal are STAGGERING. While it costs Duke about 3 cents to generate a coal-fired kWh, the damages are 18-27 cents/kWh. (See Paul Epstein et al). This means that every dollar of coal-fired power generated does at least $3 -- and depending on how you count -- perhaps $9 worth of damage.

Again, $1 worth of coal power, $3-9 in damages. And these are damages our children will pay.

Why in heaven's name does Duke want to perpetuate NC importing nearly $2 BILLION worth of coal every year? It's crazy.

According to the UCS, North Carolinians spend $254/yr importing coal from out of state, and a pathetic $1/yr on energy efficiency. Ugh.
