Re: “Absolute power: An examination of Art Pope's dominance

Thank you Indy and Facing South! I haven't even read the N&O for at least 15 years due to the right-wing nature of it's beast and this expose' only deepens that commitment. I don't support ANY Pope company or subsidiary either. Yup. I'm one of those who refuses to walk into a Wal-Mart despite their cheerful senior citizen 'greeters'.

Quel Surprise! The N&O trades slanted media coverage and a 'blind eye' to nefarious deeds committed by it's benefactor in return for all those lovely Pope advertising bucks spent on their newspaper. The Chapel Hill News is the N&O's 'western branch'. No wonder it has turned into such a piece of garbage over the years. 'Progressive' my a**! I really have to think seriously about boycotting the businesses who advertise there too.

Sigh...anyone out there not corrupted by Republibillions?

Re: “Internet sweepstakes cafes likely to sidestep the ban

I like Fed up's comment but it goes even further. When will the people of NC quit voting for lawmakers who don't care a whit about the citizenry's best interests over their own pocketbooks and bank accounts? Way to go, NC. Elect even more idiots into office like we did last month? We get what we ask for; backwoods, backwater, backwash Carolina Republicans with the collective IQ of my shoe size. It's time for NC voters to grow up and stop voting for politicians who don't give a rat's ass about any of us. To the guy whining about what gambling does to families? Alcohol has far greater negative consequences to society as a whole. Shall we take it upon ourselves to try to outlaw booze again? Whoah....the Republicans would LOVE that. After all, it was NC bootlegging that brought us NASCAR.
