Re: “Don't Tell Ashley Christensen What to Do with Her Bathrooms

Dear Dude -

It has been decided in a court of law time and time again that a private or public business, government, church or other organization can not discriminate because of their beliefs. For example, a church that serves food at a shelter can't just serve Christians or straight people. Currently in Colorado the court decided not to hear the appeal of the cake baker who wanted to deny a cake to a Gay couple who got married. The Charlotte measure bans discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression in housing and places of public accommodation. Private businesses do not operate in a vacuum. Private businesses use city provided water, police protection, sidewalks, fire protection, permitting, roads and highways, utilities, cleaning services, and more. This is an assumption (and if I am wrong, you'll probably latch on this part to "win" your argument) - but I assume if I ran a bakery and posted "Buddhist Bathroom Only" or "Christians use back alley" you would b e furious and fight it as "religious oppression or discrimination. Get a grip - your argument is the SAME argument the regressive, fearful people have used for generations to marginalize and criminalize cultures, races, thoughts and ideas that make them scared, annoyed, confused or hateful. It's time to grow up and live the virtues inscribed on the Statue of Liberty:

“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.”

Re: “G105 hangs black man from tow truck in Raleigh Xmas parade

It's racist because he called it Tyrone our Black Christmas Fairy.. it's about him being black - it's funny because he is black - it's simply racist.

Re: “Anybody in Raleigh FOR high-speed rail? No, seriously —

And yes - that goes for everyone.. Most places with a serious rail system (NY, NJ, PA, DC, SF, etc) - are better for it, we need to be thinking forward. Raleigh with a serious rail program is a better city to work in, live in and play in...

Why not build a high speed train station near the beltline and run "trolley lines" through the cities major train routes.. ?
