Re: “Mexico's drugs come north. America's guns go south.

Memo to self: do not post comments until after the 2nd cup of coffee. The text "rape victim with means to protect herself" should read "rape victim with NO means to protect herself".

Sorry, the comments about getting mental health care are directed at the author of this rambling, violent, article.

Re: “Mexico's drugs come north. America's guns go south.

With regard to Australia getting rid of guns, why not the US. Does Australia have neighbor to the south pouring tons of drugs into their country? Do they have huge problem with addicts committing all sorts of crime to feed their habits? Do they have untold numbers of rapes, most of which are never reported? Do they take away a woman's only means of self defense, making it impossible for her to report being raped? Does Australia give the home address of a rape victim to the accused rapist and his lawyer? Does the Australian court rule that women have no right to expect the police to protect them? Does Australia leave a rape victim with means to protect herself from being killed by the accused rapist? Does Australia have violent criminals who kidnap and kill children who are victims of rape? (Jetseta Gage)? Does Australia hate women like the gun ban lobby here in the US?

Indeed, why do you hate women?

Have you seen your shrink for a med change? Seriously, your writings show a real need for help. Please get it before your anger makes you into another mass killer. I'm serious, this is not a joke or an insult!

Re: “Mexico's drugs come north. America's guns go south.

As I step back from your writings I am overwhelmed by your manic paranoid rantings. You my friend, are one of those mass killers who need mental health treatment. Before your anger becomes a killing spree. How long have you been talking with the devil? Thank God that the NRA sponsored a federal law mandating that states report the mentally incompetent for listing in the instant background check. You should get expedited service. I'm a gun nut who doesn't scare easily. But you scare the heck out of me!

Re: “Mexico's drugs come north. America's guns go south.

. . . but Satan is waiting with open arms for those bastards who lobby Congress for their constitutional right to sell AK-47s and cop-killer bullets to the furious and the mad."

Can you tell me where to buy AK-47's and cop killer bullets???? They don't sell them here.. or anywhere for that matter!

Automatic weapons like the AK-47 are VERY illegal except for military and law enforcement. No one, especially not the NRA, is advocating selling automatic weapons. 10 years federal prison time for each one.

Cop killer bullets, aka armor piercing, are illegal in handgun calibers. We are talking 10 years federal prison time. Show me one legal source of cop killer bullets in handgun calibers. Rifles are way too big to use for crimes, so they don't count.

I think you need to check with your doctor as it seems your meds aren't working very well. I'd say you are entering a manic phase with paranoia.

Re: “Mexico's drugs come north. America's guns go south.

Let's take a look at the killing sprees. Again, let's use evidence instead of wild imaginations. I compiled data on the past 15 years of killing sprees to identify common elements. (I will be updating it shortly for latest killings.)

First of all EVERYONE has access to firearms, legal or otherwise. Legal purchases require photo ID, go through a background check, fill out a sworn statement, etc, for rifles. Handguns usually require a special permit with even more strict checking. Much easier to buy them on the street just like buying drugs. So it is disingenuous to consider access to firearms a risk factor.

The highest risk factor in over 60% is obvious but untreated mental illness. These killers show careful preparation, allowing them to obtain firearms legally or illegally. It also give them time to make bombs, which several used in addition to firearms. Gun bans would do nothing to stop these people. A national health insurance with aggressive treatment of the dangerous mentally ill would likely stop them.

The next highest risk factor is being a member of law enforcement. These killers seem to "go postal" without warning or preparation. Usually work related firearms are used. Here again, gun bans would do not good. Unless you plan on disarming the police!

The data, cites, and analysis is at my web site: http://rideronthestorm-armed.angelfire.com/

Re: “Mexico's drugs come north. America's guns go south.

The first rule of good reporting is having reliable sources. First with the claim that 95% of Mexican drug cartel weapons from us gun stores and gun shows. Almost right, except the weapons come from US MILITARY, not gun shows. Cartels are buying real assault weapons (automatic fire) not the castrated copies in gun stores (no automatic fire). Here is the evidence:

The US Attorney General does not even try to defend the claim that 90% of Mexican firearms come from the US. See this URL where he hedges when confronted about this: http://features.csmonitor.com/globalnews/2009/04/02/top-us-mexican-officials-meet-on-guns-smuggling/

Secretary of State let slip that machine guns (assault weapons), rocket launchers, and grenades were going south. Only the military is allowed to possess functional weapons such as these. See: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/us_world/2009/03/26/2009-03-26_secretary_of_state_hillary_clintons_call.html

Examination of captured arms shows US Military origin. See: http://www.10news.com/news/19071202/detail.html#- http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/04/02/myth-percent-guns-mexico-fraction-number-claimed/

There is also evidence that military weapons are coming from South America, which may include US Military arms: http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-mexico-arms-race15-2009mar15,0,229992.story
