Re: “Raleigh bar advertises with offensive language

It is more than obvious that Dr. Ho has her own agenda since she has already written an Editorial to The Daily Tarheel, The Technician, and emailed the flyer to WRAL and now the Independent (talk about propaganda and shame on the Independent for jumping on this bandwagon). Enough already! This flyer is nothing more than a simple play on words referring to getting trashed on the Chinese New Year. Yes, it is not politically correct and some may even find it in bad taste, but many others took it at face value and thought it was funny, the way in which it was intended! The ONLY reason that it contains the tagline no offense because it was not politically correct and did not want people to be offended by the lack of politically correctness. The flyer is clearly NOT making fun of Asians or of their slanted eyes. Those looking to be offended will not only find offense with this flyer, but with many other things in which were NOT intended to be offensive. But then to make the leap and accuse someone of being a racist because YOU choose to interpret something in a manner in which it was not attended? Dr. Ho is nothing more than a huge hypocrite. She is upset because she believes this flyer uses stereotypical ideas about Asians and their slanted eyes, but yet she uses those same stereotypical ideas when she refers to the south. The website in which Dr. Ho saw the flyer admits to being a racist website and refers to White Americans as whiteys I find it a lot more alarming that an educated UNC professor (teaching) would view such a poisonous site- ESPECIALLY if shes truly interested in ending racism and stereotypes like she says. Dr. Ho not only thinks this flyer AND the whole south is racist, but apparently ALL whiteys are racists as well. Who is the real racist here? Dr. Ho should practice what she preaches and stop attempting to make something out of nothing! Amanda LaRoque
