Re: “Locks and the black woman

I receive that nappy hair is not okay. Not just from blacks, but from whites. According to white friends it "doesn't look professional" and I find it much easier to find employment in a straight wig. I have dreds and people have accused me of shoplifting, sneer, and such a thing. In the straight wig I receive more smiles, less harrassment, more humane treatment in general. With thicker dreds people may assume you use drugs, homeless, anti-white, or just in "your own little world". Some jobs actually have unwritten policies against dredlocks, headscarfs, anything "ethnic". Flowing locks on a woman is seen as less threatening, like she's "part of the team". Before you go on this black self-hate tip, you must consider why blacks feel this way. Being "ethnic" may very well threaten one's livelihood. Society as a whole doesn't like blacks too much. So to reduce drama women keep relaxed hair.
