Communities in Schools of Durham

CIS pairs adult volunteers & at-risk students in 1-to-1 mentoring relationships. Mentors are matched with same-sex middle & high school students for 12 academic months & are asked to spend 4-6 hrs/mo for at least 1 year with their mentee (evenings & weekends, flexible). The time is spent developing healthy behaviors, friendship & social skills. Intense screening includes an application, FBI background check, home assessment, & training.
