Re: “Born in the Shadow of N.C. State, Steeped in Parties and Punk Rock, Raleigh’s Historic Maiden Lane Will Soon Perish in the Name of Progress

First time in Raleigh and staying at the Aloft Hotel. A quick walk after dinner brought me down Maiden Lane. I am a lover of old homes, historic areas and the rich architectural details on old houses that just don't exist today. I was perplexed when I saw every house no the street boarded up and deserted. Immediately went back to my room to investigate. And so I landed on this amazing and thorough article of the coming demise of these grand historical homes. What a shame. A real crying shame. All in the name of GREED. I cant believe the local historical preservation society did not step in. Or the university did not try to preserve this heritage. I am saddened and hope this never happens to the historical areas in Winston-Salem, where i live. So sorry Raleigh, for your loss of these homes and the inability to save and preserve them.
