Re: “Dammit, Al Franken

Calls for Franken to resign are not helpful. Not all moral transgressions are equally bad, and they don't all deserve the same punishment. Demanding the same punishment of Franken as Moore plays into the false equivalencies of the Republicans. Franken must be punished, Moore must be destroyed.

Re: “Dammit, Al Franken

There is no equivalence between the two cases. One's questionable harassment during an adult comedy skit tour and its run up, the other adult predatory behavior toward under age children over a period of years. Next lets see how the puss grabbing and multiple charged unwanted brutish sexual contact advances Trump does.

Re: “The Chelsea Theater, the Last Old-School Art Cinema Standing in Chapel Hill, Might Close at the End of the Year

The Carolina, the Varsity, now the Chelsea. These movie houses were among the reasons we moved here 25 years ago. The Silver Spot, with its ludicrous seats (have you tried to snuggle with your date in them?) and interminable trailers, is a pathetic substitute, Trumpian in its outsized, garish excess. How disappointing that our town cant support a theater with character, a devoted staff, and great popcorn.

Re: ““I Am Human, I Am Black and I Am Fed Up”: UNC Trustees Hear Public Comments on Silent Sam

The Slap in the face is done by these protesters to the people who worked tirelessly to fund and provide this university. They should study the history. Shame on them for not appreciating what has been done for them!
Leave the monument alone. The statue honors our dead who fought for our independence. These protesters can put up their own monument instead of tearing ours down. They are judging 150 years ago just like it is today. Slavery was 200 years old in the South then and was LEGAL!

Re: “The Chelsea Theater, the Last Old-School Art Cinema Standing in Chapel Hill, Might Close at the End of the Year

The Chelsea Theatre has to be saved! Chapel Hill and the Triangle would be greatly diminished without it. Other theatres, including and maybe even especially Silverspot, are way too focused on blockbusters. The Chelsea fills an important niche, and there are undoubtedly ways to make sure it remains a financially sustainable operation. A membership program, film clubs or community funding model (selling "shares"), for example.

Re: “District Attorney: Felony Charges Remain Against Defend Durham Protesters

Could you write about some rational people occasionally??

And Pierce thinks he should be appointed to our City Council.

Hope there are some adults in the PA with courage. I regret to have to say Durham needs them.

Re: “Sig Hutchinson: If Wake Stops Investing in Schools and Transportation, It Will Slip Off Those Best-Places-to-Live Lists

Upward mobility in Wake County is worse than most places in the country. Why is that? If we look at how this town has grown over the last 15 years, there are many avenues to channel the blame. But what makes me sick to my stomach is how whats happening to poor and black people in Raleigh is no different than any other state where democrats hold the power. Look at Chicago! One of the largest municipality budgets in the country, but yet over 50% of the men in the city cant find work. What else is there for them to do, but survive any way they can? These democratic ran cities know what theyre doing and they know they are neglecting the development of it citizens. They would rather see us being needing and receiving entitlements than self sufficient and no longer suckling. They see us as liabilities and until we let that register in our heads and seek out political support, where ever it be, to get the help we need to make sure more people are able to survivor and THRIVE, we are just as much at fault. The democratic party has used and abused us far too long! At this point, what do we have to lose?

Re: “Bad News for Big Pork: A Federal Court Rules That the Murphy-Brown Nuisance Lawsuits Can Go to Trial

Republicans fit snuggly in the pockets of Big Business Corp. People should vote this vermine out of office.

Re: “Sig Hutchinson: If Wake Stops Investing in Schools and Transportation, It Will Slip Off Those Best-Places-to-Live Lists

"...a transportation system that works, a world-class educational system, and what he termed our unsurpassed quality of life.

"All of these are so important because, in todays economy, talented professionals can and will go anywhere that these three are abundant and strong..."

Sig's comments suggests that Wake County prefers "Talented Professionals' and all others are a after thought, need not live here. We have to change our mind set. We don't need to another layer added to our already challenging layers based on race, nationality, sexuality, etc. Pitting Talented Professionals against everyone else is why the Raleigh's 2017 election map is so binary and depressing.

Everyone wants and deserves a transportation system that works, a world-class educational system, and what he termed our unsurpassed quality of life and we should show the utmost respect for anyone who works hard every day at their craft whether the craft is digging a ditch or deciphering the genetic codes. As the bible describes each and everyone of us, dust thou art and dust thou shall return.

The irony of this whole idea of growing by 67 people daily is also a doomsday clock, we will grow by 67 people daily until we can not absorb them any more then the reverse will happen. We exercise no control on the former nor the latter and only history will measure how wise we were not to exercise control over the former.

Re: “Charges Against Three Defend Durham Demonstrators Dropped

You do realize the real reason the KKK was brought about was for this very same reason. When the law wont punish those that deserve punishing vigilantes need to take it into their own hands. You people just left them boys wide open for a well deserved vigilante justice. Ill be following along and cheering when they get it.
