9 TO 5 | NC Museum of Art | Special Events | Indy Week
This is a past event.
When: Fri., May 11, 8 p.m. 2012
Price: $5 ($3.50 for members)

After weeks of taking audiences back to the early days of the 20th century (specifically the swinging '60s), the North Carolina Museum of Art ends its "Mad About Mad Men" series—in 1980? That's when the final film in the series, 9 to 5, was released and takes place. This workplace farce has the iconic trio of Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton as secretaries who defiantly turn the tables on their "sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot" of a boss (Dabney Coleman, reveling in his scuzziness). It's basically a feminist-era revenge fantasy. Can you think of a better way to close out a film series that, among other things, examined the ass-backward sexism that dominated the era? NCMA film curator and Independent Weekly contributor Laura Boyes will introduce the film, which starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5, or $3.50 for NCMA, Galaxy Cinema and Cinema Inc. members. —Craig D. Lindsey
