7 | The Carrack Modern Art | Arts | Indy Week
This is a past event.

When: Aug. 1-9 2014
Murray is an artist of what Somerset Maugham called "humanity in the rough." In 7, an exhibit of new works, the Cedar Grove-based mixed media specialist turns his gaze upon what he calls "the true underbelly of Southern Life." What exactly this entails is an open question, though we've seen a couple of compelling images. In a bizarre but enthusiastic press release, Murray fondly recounts fragrant chicken shit, mountain ridges of rubber tires and a gun enthusiast who had a special vendetta against snakes that dared to cross the road. 7 features paintings and "other things of interest" made from "pretty much anything [Murray] can get his hands on." If Murray's work is half as entertaining in person as it is in print, then the show promises to be a rare treat indeed. Following this opening reception, the exhibit is up through Aug. 9. —Will Partin
