The demonstration will start from the Islamic Center of Raleigh. The Durham organizers' statement:

Durham Protests Israel's Assault on Humanitarian Aid Flotilla

Israel‘s recent violent attack on an unarmed flotilla carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza, resulting in injury or death for dozens of international civilians, is the latest in a long series of violations of human rights and international law that Israel carries out with impunity because of the unwavering political and economic support of the United States.
As Jews and as US citizens, we protest these immoral and illegal acts perpetrated by Israel in our name and with our tax dollars — aid projected to reach $30 billion through 2018. We ask our government to stop being an accomplice of Israeli aggression, to lift the blockade on Gaza, and to end U.S. military aid to Israel until it adopts a constructive peace policy towards the Palestinians.
Our protest will take place Thursday, June 3, from 5-7 p.m., in Durham at the intersection of Main and Gregson streets (near Brightleaf Square).

It is interesting that concerned jew is concerned about the terrorists in Gaza but not about the terrorism wrought upon the Gazans and Palestinians in the West Bank. Does he/she not know of the 1430 Gazans killed in 2008-2009. Does he/she not know of the 25,000 Palestinian houses destroyed by the Israelis. Does he/she not know of the 750,000 Palestinians ethnically cleansed by the Israelis in 1948 as described by the leading Israeli historian. This a normal statement from Jews who are simply unwilling to go deeper than sound bites into the history of the conflict and to impartially review the realities of the current situation. There always seems to be a conflation or distraction away from the issues of social justice and human rights to some discussion of terrorism, Islamic extremism, the lack of Arab country support or some other issue. I ask concerned jew to step out of the self-constructed box he shares with millions of other Jews and look at the truth and entertain justice as a solution.

To concernedjew,

Missiles and bombs? Yes they are coming from somewhere. Most of them I am certain are coming from the United States. You argue that these don't count I guess, they are stricly for "defensive purposes." Tell that to the many arabs and other non-Jews who have been very effectively imprisoned in their own homes by them. Tell that to families that have lost their loved ones, children as often as not, to such "defensive weapons." They were often made very dead by them. And does the notion of "imperialism" mean anything to you? Do you think modern weapons such as the U.S. supplies to Israel might be playing a role there? Along those lines you might ask yourself why it might be that Arab orchards and olive groves are usually destroyed when the IDF "moves in." What is the difference between the cement an Israeli brings to a "settlement" and the cement coming with the aid convoy just attacked? I guess some "facts on the ground" are tolerated better than others. james

The Israelis can easily open passage ways that are supervised. Ship can be boarded and searched. This all out blockade is am illegal action to punish all the people of Gaza. Hamas whether we like it or not is the democratically elected government of the Palestinians. You cannot take a hard line saying no discussions until they are gone. This has not worked and will not work to progress towards peace. As far as Jews being ashamed of themselves "going against their own country". I am Jewish and an American. Israel is not my home nor does it have my allegiance. I am not ashamed to stand for justice and oppose oppression, violence and arrogance wherever it raises it s ugly head.

there needs to be some kind of supervision on the incoming cargo to the Gaza strip, these missiles and strapped bombs are coming from somewhere, no? if you completely disagree with that, then you're just being blind. if we were to open the borders, aside from a lot of people who really deserve a normal life getting a break, ammunition will also enter. I have no problem with them living a normal life, on the contrary! but something must be done with the terroristic regime there first - Hamas must go!
only then can a peace process begin. Or do you not want peace?

it's sad when jews turn against their own country, especially when no one is going to be there for you if muslims take over the area - you'll always be a jew and you all should be ashamed of yourselves!

A concerned american jew

Very good analysis. One thing that is very clear is that Beverly Perdue is shopping for a job.
