Whether it be over college basketball, or vying for Google Fiber, there are some folks in the Triangle who just LOVE turning everything into a competition. That said, residents in Chatham County is leaving the rest of the Triangle in the dust when it comes to returning its U.S. Census forms. Durham (cough, cough) is choking on that dust.
Numbers will be updated today at 4 p.m., but as of now, these are how the rankings shake out:
(Percentages of U.S. Census recipients who have mailed them back)
Nationally, 20 percent of residents who received the forms have sent them back. Across North Carolina, 15 percent have returned them. The Midwest is basically beating everyone.

Whelp, I am skewing the Durham numbers as I received a notice on March 8th that in about a weeks time or so I would receive the Census Form. Last week I got a friendly reminder that I should have already turned in my 2010 Census Form and if I have, thanks....if not...do it...it's the law.
Notice, I never said I actually received the Census form. Just a notice that it was coming and a notice to turn it in. Whelp...still waiting for the form...
Good job Fed!
I don't know what the Census forms in Chatham say, but the one I received in Durham asked me to base my answers on the residents of my home as of April 1, 2010. Given that we're still a week shy of that date, how can all these people have already returned their forms? So much can happen in a week! ;-)
