Triangle residents have contributed nearly $230,000 to Barack Obama's Presidential Inaugural Committee, according to the committee's public database.
Wendell McCain of Parish Capital Advisors in Chapel Hill donated $25,000;
Raleigh businessman John Crumpler of Hatteras Venture Partners in RTP and venture capitalist Steve Lerner of FGI Research in Chapel Hill contributed donor bundles of $100,000 each,, meaning they collected smaller donations and contributed the money in one gift.
Crumpler has been long active in Democratic politics and is on the board of the Clean Water Management Trust Fund. Lerner hosted a big-ticket Obama fundraiser in 2007; he is also on the advisory board of Durham-based A. M. Pappas & Associates, a large life science venture capital firm.
Other contributors include Gail Colvin, not employed, Chapel Hill ($250); Gary Massey, Good Health Services, Raleigh ($250); Angela Grimes of GlaxoSmithKline ($1,200); Katrina Avery, Harris/ Smith OB-GYN, Durham ($500); William Harrison, Harvest Corporate Services, Durham, ($200); John Stonham, self-employed, Pittsboro (1,250); and Cary Town Councilman Ervin Portman, also co-founder of Weststar Precision in Holly Springs. ($1,000).
Unlike previous inaugural committees, Obama's committee does not accept contributions from corporations, political action committees, labor unions, current federally registered lobbyists, non-U.S. citizens and registered foreign agents. It does not accept individual contributions in excess of $50,000.
