A new CNN poll shows Kay Hagan opening up a lead over Sen. Elizabeth Dole. Poll tracking sites such as Pollster.com and Talkingpointsmemo.com have changed their assessment of the race from "toss-up" to reflect the trend.
However, this data doesn't seem to reflect the fallout from Dole's widely reviled "godless" ads. The poll was conducted Oct. 23-28, from 667 likely voters.

The GOP hasn't had a new idea since Richard Nixon's southern strategy - and even that masterpiece of hate was ripped off of George Wallace. The old lies just don't seem to be working for them. The few remaining thinking conservatives, who possess even a hint of integrity, have been making like rats off a sinking ship. In its present state the Republican party is not much more than a cesspool of hate-filled kooks - the very ones that William F. Buckley said he spent his life trying to eliminate from the party. But, what makes all this a hilarious pathetic farce is that the Republican faithful want to blame the state of their party on the Democrats. As long as their arrogance keeps them from seeing the truth then the cesspool will continue to get deeper and more vile. What we are now seeing in the Republican party is the culmination of decades of hate and meanness. This is not an accident. They've spent enormous energy and effort into turning this hatred into money and votes. Their corrupt deal with the devil has been the source of their success in putting candidates into office - hate blacks, hate the poor, hate the Democrats, hate the government, and then turn around and self-righteously claim that your Democratic opponent doesn't believe in Jesus. The Republican party brought this all onto themselves. Unfortunately the stench touches us all. It's time to put a stop to it - long overdue, actually.
