'The Straight Talk Express has detoured into doublespeak'

Posted by on Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 12:25 PM

Yes, that's an AP lede. Yesterday's wire-service commentary calls out the McCain-Palin campaign for making at least three "aggressive claims this week that omitted key details or made dubious assumptions," including its refusal to acknowledge that Sarah Palin did, in fact, at one point support the Bridge to Nowhere. (As well as an ad implying that Barack Obama is a pervert for supporting sex education.) Meanwhile, the New York Times is reporting that Palin dropped her typical 'Thanks, but no thanks' reference to the $200 million earmarked project in a speech yesterday. For the record: That's not an acknowledgment; that's hoping the false claim will fade quietly into the night, somewhere on a lonely highway, with a lost Straight Talk Express bus (just not one leading to a sparsely populated island in Alaska called Gravina).
