Ricky Brooks (1-3) tied his career high of eight strikeouts in five innings, leading the Birmingham Barons over the visiting Mudcats 8-0 Thursday night in Carolina’s final road game of the year. Daryl Thompson (0-5) took the loss.

Eduardo Escobar led Birmingham with a homer and a single and scored three times, while Josh Phegley also homered for the winners.

Jake Kahaulelio and Felix Perez each had a pair of hits for Carolina, which was shut out for the second straight night as the Barons took the three-game series.

Carolina had several transactions on Thursday, as ace left-hander Tom Cochran was called up to Louisville and right-hander Abe Woody was called up from Lynchburg. Also, lefty Travis Webb was placed on the temporary inactive list.

The Mudcats will conclude their season with a four-game series against the Tennessee Smokies beginning tonight.
